String theories

Well. This is it. My final post. ….Or is it?
It’s certainly the final post about this course building of my first guitar. But I have a feeling ‘Stus guitar adventure’ may have some life in it yet.

So…. Friday. What more was there to do. The woodwork was done and sprayed. The nut and saddle were done. Everything was ready. I don’t wish to flog a dead horse but….”surely the strings would be going on right away” wrong!

The little things.

Thursday was a weird day. Just like every day this week…. The moment of completion loomed. Sometime towards the end of this week our strings would be on and we’d hear these guitars. At one point I thought it may be Wednesday. That didn’t happen. Then I thought it may be Thursday. But as Thursday unfolded it was clear that it wasn’t going to happen until the very last day because there was still a lot to do. A lot of little things. But crucial little things as you’ll see.

I’ve just re read the blog I posted on the first Wednesday of the course. I remember my thought process clearly. I stated early on in that post that I wouldn’t be able to maintain a daily account of my work in the shop due to the amount of energy and work it would take. I remember the moment I thought that. What I don’t remember is forgetting that decision and as I look back over my posts I’ve done the exact opposite!! I have posted every day! Even weekends.

I’m not sure how this happened and I don’t remember the decision process but sure enough, as I look back, I’ve written a post every day and it’s been hard work.

What the heck happened?

Ok so I owe any followers an apology. I havent posted for over 10 days!

What I was doing before was writing posts about three days behind where I actually was with the guitar build. Now I’m about 10 days behind. Being 3 days ahead of my posts was ok before as I was still full of momentum and I was still on the journey, but now I’m not. The guitar is finished and I’m half way up home. Somewhere in France.

Friday feelings

Jeez I’m kinda getting behind with these blogs. It’s Wednesday now in week four but this post is for Friday week three. I’m really keen to show you where I actually am with the guitar, not where I was five days ago. But I won’t, you’ll have to wait. So Friday 29th May. End of week three. I could start to feel the end of our stay in this beautiful little town creeping up. But there was still a lot to do. Read More »

What next?

Thursday. Yesterday I’d reached another milestone. My guitar was closed up and had been taken out of the mold. That was how it would be forever more. It looked great and it was very, very light.
But now what. All that preparing and shaping the various components was done and the guitar was right there in front of me. It had an element of a big out breath. Ahhhhhh. Done..Sort of…But obviously not quite.

Tuesday time

Honestly, writing this blog is hard work. The longer the course goes on the harder it is to motivate myself to write. However I’ve started so I must finish otherwise it would be a let down and a waste of time. I must apologise if some of my posts seem lazy or tired, but trying to write an informative, fun, smart post every day is hard when I want to unwind and relax with my girlfriend.

Anyways, Tuesday was a good day. The sun was out and the sky was blue again.
